msg systems developed the specialized application and Web service interfaces on behalf of the Federal Office of Administration.
Munich, June 11, 2013. The visa alert file developed for the Federal Office of Administration (BVA) went live right on schedule on June 1st. msg systems supported the Federal central service provider in the blueprinting, implementation and introduction of the file and will be responsible for the maintenance of the visa alert file. The German Parliament (Bundestag) made the decision to implement a visa alert file toward the end of 2011 in order to prevent illegal entries into the country. Among the data found in the file are the names of people who have attracted attention in the past by, for example, abuse of a visa or providing inaccurate data during the visa process.
The visa alert file is a registration application developed based on Register Factory, the standard used by the BVA for the efficient construction and operation of IT systems used to manage electronic registers. Experts from msg systems were responsible for developing the specialized application, including the Web service interfaces which can connect the various government agencies to the alert file, such as Departments of Foreign Affairs, immigration authorities or the Federal police.
Development Period of Only Six Months
The team was able to present the register for acceptance at the end of March 2013, following less than six months of blueprinting and development. Following a subsequent and intensive test phase that concluded the end of May, the BVA and the project team from msg systems went live with the application. msg systems will also be responsible for the future maintenance. "Due to legal requirements, the team was under very high pressure to meet deadlines and quality. Thanks to the strong technological and project management competence of all involved, the application was implemented on-time and pursuant to the requirements," reports Ulrich Maßolle, Head of the Public Safety Department at the Federal Department of Administration. "A further advantage was the fact that msg systems has extensive experience with Register Factory and IT projects in the public sector."
msg systems has won numerous bids from government agencies in the past, such as the Procurement Office of the Federal Ministry of the Interior or the Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Development (BMVBS). "We are especially pleased with this multifaceted project with the BVA; not only were we able to contribute our professional and technical expertise, we were also able to apply our expertise in the field of security," explains Dr. Stephan Frohnhoff, member of the Board of Directors at msg systems ag. "Moreover, the BVA combines the administrative tasks of the Office of the Federal President, the Federal Chancellery and numerous other Federal Ministries and is thus a key customer in the public sector."
